Voices of the Bay: A Voyage of Science, Community and Heritage through Local Fisheries Knowledge  $21,500
This project develops a place-based curriculum, lesson plans, and activities that use local fisheries as the context for learning about the marine environment, the ecological and human dimensions of marine resource use, and its management. The overall project will expose students to the rich fishing history of the Monterey Bay area.

Voices from the Fisheries: Proposal for a National Archive  $15,920 Local Fisheries Knowledge Pilot Project and will create a NOAA Fisheries clearinghouse to identify, consolidate, web-base archive and disseminate recordings and transcriptions of the stories and sounds from commercial fisheries and make them available to researchers and the public nationwide.

Catching the Fishing History of Lake Michigan, 1871-2006  $9,000 Partnering with Michigan Sea Grant and the Fishtown Preservation Society, this project will support new research of the 1870-1940 period and document the living history of the fishery in the Leelanau Peninsula/Manitou Islands through interviews with surviving tribal and non-tribal fishermen, fishery biologists, and other local residents.

Documenting the History and Heritage of US Weather Bureau Buildings, 1898-1913  $9,000 This project will identify and document U.S. Weather Bureau buildings constructed and acquired between 1898 and 1913. The architecture, anecdotes and archived materials will document the proud tradition of civilian meteorological services and illuminate a critical period in the history of U.S. meteorology, weather observing, weather communication, forecasting, and climatology practices.

Talk Story: Interpreting NOAA’s Contribution to South Maui, Hawaii  $16,400

The project will inventory historic documents telling the NOAA story and native Hawaiian history along the South Maui Coastal Heritage Corridor, and produce interpretive signage, educational pamphlets, and a recycled bench for trail walkers to use while enjoying the site and its resources.

Documenting Traditional Knowledge of Marine Use and Resource Management in American Samoa  $20,860
This project will document traditional knowledge of marine use and resource management in American Samoa through the assimilation of oral histories of traditional fishing and resource management methods with elders from American Samoan coastal villages. This knowledge and information will be used to improve outreach materials and policy and management programs with partner agencies.

NOAA and the National Park Service George Washington Carver – Voluntary Weather Observer Traveling Exhibit $7,650
Partnering with the National Park Service George Washington Carver Museum, the NOAA Central Library will create a traveling exhibit that will feature George Washington Carver, a notable weather pioneer.

Upper Keys Shipwrecks: Archaeological Site Assessment of Shipwrecks in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary - $9,650

An experienced Nautical Archaeologist will train volunteers in methods of underwater archaeological survey, mapping, and documentation. This inventory and digital record will become part of a final site plan.
